Selecting the right team members for a paranormal investigation is just as important as selecting the right equipment. Learn how to choose the right person for the job.
Investigation of the paranormal has drawn quite a following, both professional and amateur alike. A successful paranormal investigation begins with having a good procedure in place that employs a standard set of guidelines, dependable equipment, and knowledgeable team members who can work together.
Since most investigations run with the help of volunteers, it is important to give new members as much information as possible so they can familiarize themselves with what to expect. They should also be aware that they may not be able to attend every investigation due to group size restrictions.
It will be difficult at first to determine how individual members will interact. When selecting a team, try to use members who seem level-headed and display an ability to approach a problem or situation logically. Avoid members who seem easily distracted, overeager, or fearful.
When a potential member applies, approach the situation as if he or she were a job applicant. Interview the applicant and find out what their skills are and how they might fit into a paranormal investigation. Do they have a good attendance record in their current or previous job?
Be sure to ask about any experiences they may have had with the supernatural, paying particular attention to how they describe their experiences. Ask follow-up questions about what they would have done differently. Make sure they understand that investigations require hard work and that it’s not always easy.
If the applicant doesn’t appear to have the qualities of a good paranormal investigator, don’t instantly dismiss the candidate. Their interest in the paranormal field and willingness to contribute may still be useful in other areas within the group. Over time, they may learn enough to become a seasoned investigator.
Once you’ve selected a potential candidate, have them familiarize themselves with the group’s policies and procedures. Pair them up with a more experienced team member that can answer questions and train them on the various types of equipment they will be using. Encourage research on the paranormal.
If the trainee will be doing on-site investigations with the group, let them try their skills at a previously researched location. Afterwards, ask for feedback on the trainee from the more seasoned team members. Identify areas that need improvement and address it with the trainee.
When it’s time for the real investigation, continue to pair the trainee with an experienced member of the team. Assign the trainee to different team members in order to expose them to more information. Periodically review the new team member’s progress and make decisions accordingly.
Having a good team on board is vital for conducting a successful paranormal investigation. The perfect team may not develop overnight, but by following these suggestions, it is possible to put together a good, solid team that can be depended on.
